Fitzgerald obviously wanted to emphasize the importance of time to the overall design of the book. Time is most important to Gatsby's character. Gatsby's relationship with time is a major aspect to the plot. He wants to erase five years from not only his own life but also Daisy's. Gatsby's response to Nick, telling him that he can repeat the past, is symbolic of the tragic irony that is behind Gatsby's fate. Gatsby exclaims on page 116, "Can't repeat the past? Why of course you can!" Gatsby cannot accept Daisy until she erases the last three years of her life by telling Tom that she never loved him to his face. Gatsby fully believes what he says and thinks (or desperately hopes) that that is true about Daisy. At one part of the story he actually tells Nick how, as soon as Tom is out of the picture, he and Daisy were going to go to Memphis so they could get married at her white house just like it were five years before hand. In another scene, when Gatsby and Nick go to the Buchanans' for lunch towards the end of the book, Gatsby sees Daisy's and Tom's child for the first time. Nick describes Gatsby's expression as one of genuine surprise and suggests that Gatsby probably never before believed in the girl's existence. AM which stands for amplitude modulation, is a broadcasting method in which the carrier waves (carry the sounds of a program) are changed to match changes in the audio frequency waves. Part A Behavior that is outside of the normally accepted parameters of society is considered deviant behavior. Deviant behavior can range from running a traffic signal to capital murder. The widely accepted norm of society declares these things to be unacceptable. What may be the normal accepted behavior in one society may be different for another. Deviant behavior is dictated by culture and evolution. What was once considered the norm yesterday may not be the norm today. Slavery in the United States was once considered the widely acceptable norm during that period. Today, slavery in the United States is not considered the acceptable norm. Although slavery is not practiced in the United States, it is still a widely acceptable practice in other countries. Men, women and children in countries such as Brazil, Western Europe and West Africa are forced to work under slave like conditions. Women are forced into prostitution, children working in factories and men forced to work for little or no pa y at all. A contributing factor to the perspective on society’s definition of deviant behavior can be link too what society deems as acceptable and unacceptable behavior. The domination and degrading of any human being is morally unacceptable. The constitution of the United States and most other countries has banned slavery. Slavery is an inhuman treatment of other human beings and the Constitution of the United States declares all men are created equal and have the same fundamental rights to live free in the pursuit of happiness. The functionalist perspective to deviant behavior asserts that deviant behavior is necessary for a balanced society. It set the parameters for what is appropriate and inappropriate behavior. The major distinction between functionalist and all other approaches believes ordinary crime is not a threat to the social order. In fact, society needs criminal  behavior (and legal responses to it) to function properly. The interactionist perspective offers two approac hes to deviant and criminal behavior-cultural transmission and routine activities theory. Interaction through primary groups of association influences behavior whether proper or improper. Individuals who are exposed to continual acts of deviant behavior are more likely find this behavior expectable. Edwin Sutherland a sociologist used the term differential association to describe exposure to criminal attitudes that lead to the violation of rules which define deviant behavior. Research has shown the influence towards negative exposure to deviant groups or acts has an impact on social behavior. The conflict perspective is based upon the view that the fundamental causes of crime are the social and economic forces operating within society. The criminal justice system and criminal law are thought to be operating on behalf of rich and powerful social elites, with resulting policies aimed at controlling the poor. The criminal justice establishment aims at imposing standards of morality and good behavior created by the powerful on the whole of society. Focus is on separating the rich and powerful from poor and weak who would steal from others and protecting themselves from physical attacks. In the process the legal rights of poor folks might be ignored. The middle class are also co-opted; they side with the elites rather the poor, thinking they might themselves rise to the top by supporting the status quo. Thus, street crimes, even minor monetary ones are routinely punished quite severely, while large scale financial and business crimes are treated much more lenient. Theft of a television might receive a longer sentence than stealing millions through illegal business practices. Part B I am an African American male born in the middle sixties. I come from a solid family background with a rich history and moderate means. In the area where I was born and raised my family is well known. But, on a larger scale as with most black families in America my family history dates back to slavery. During my childhood and teen years I excelled in sports and academics. I achieved a starting position at the quarterback position as a freshman and ran on the varsity track team. After high school I joined the navy and quickly achieved rank during my six year tour. After military  service I achieved a position as a lab tech at a chemical company until my current position as a youth pastor. I am also a college student. I am a husband and father. As a youth pastor that has become my master status. This is a title that supersedes my ascribed and achieved statuses. I don’t believe my ascribed status is a necessarily a role that I play but a label society has tagged me with. How I was born and the circumstances and condition in which I was born was beyond my control. As a black man I believe I have a responsibility to represent my race and culture in a respectable way. I also have a responsibility to my family heritage. My achieved status is what I worked for and what I continue to work for towards building a stronger future. I believe my master status is my most important, because it brings the other statuses into perspective. My role as pastor and most importantly a man of God help me balance my other roles and makes me a better person. A role conflict occurred when I was a head football coach and my coaching staff consisted of close friends. The conflict came when I had to address complaints from parents about one of the coaches who happened to be a family member. I had to separate my family relationship and perform my duty as a head coach and address this concern which was a valid one. The strain of the coaching position became strained when it conflicted with my work schedule and family life. I could no longer absorb the demands it required. I could no longer affectively be the head coach when my time with the team became limited. My role as a youth pastor would cause me the most difficulty in terms of role exit. This resolves the disagreement between members because the choice was taken leaving no conflict. The Just Right Tire marketing team can now meet the deadline. Conflict is common in workplace teams and is not always bad. Conflict is important because it provides different strategies for completing a common goal. A common cause of conflict in a group is a breakdown in communication. Examples of communication breakdown are misunderstandings, cultural differences, and poor listening (Skills, Gulper, Shyness. 010).The manager's responsibility Is to find a solution and resolve the disagreement. Conflict resolution is important because too much conflict can lead to an impasse and effect performance. Since Jan, Sally, and Mark have been very successful in the past working on a team an effective conflict resolution process would be to have all the parties' compromise. The Compromise approach Is where each party would be bring forth their arguments and find a common ground, each would receive some and each would have to sacrifice a little as heir marketing project, compromising would be an effective way for the team to resolve their conflict.Another conflict resolution method that the manager could follow would be collaboration. Collaboration as defined by Winnable (2010), â€Å"is the parties attempt to r esolve their conflict by finding a mutually beneficial solution through problem. Collaboration Is a win-win situation compared to compromising where everyone loses a little, the Issue Is that collaboration can take more time to come too resolution. Since Jan, Sally, and Mark have worked effectively in the past gather collaboration would be effective.The reason is they all have the same goals in getting this marketing project completed however there was a breakdown in communication. Collaboration is the most effective when the parties have the same goals, have open communication, and have a shared level of trust (Wallace, 2010). In order to resolve the conflict with Jan, Sally, and Mark at Just Right Tire Company, ten manager snouts perform ten primary Tunnels AT management. I en primary functions of an effective manager consist of planning, organizing, leading, and monitoring (Nickels, McHugh, & McHugh, 2010).The first step of the manager is to setup a plan and approach the team to develop and to promote the new tires for the company. Once the team is aware of the plan, the manager should organize the responsibilities of each team member. The manager was aware of the strengths of each team member, that they worked well together, and produced successful ads in the past due to each member's different strengths. While Jan, Sally, and Mark are working together the manager should also be leading the team by guiding, coaching, ND motivating them to achieve their goal to produce a successful ad for Just Right Tire Company.

By looking at my personal experiences, statistics, and current laws, it is clear that there is no need for lowering the BAC. First off, I do not drink. Yet, I’ve had many experiences relating to drinking and driving through my friends. One thing I’ve noticed is that it is extremely hard for people to tell if they are legally drunk or not. Furthermore, I have never heard any of my friends say that they feel that they should drive home because they have only a . 09% BAC. The law has very little effect on how many drinks a person decides to consume. Therefore, lowering the legal drunk limit will not result in people acting more responsible. Supporters of lowering the BAC like Judith Lee Stone in her essay â€Å"YES! † think they are targeting the problem of drunken driving, but the real problem lies within the higher BACs. Ninety three percent of fatal accidents are 0. 10% BAC and above, and half of those ninety three percent have a BAC of 0. 20% and above. The average BAC for fatal accidents is at actually at 0. 17%. This seems like a more logical target for new laws then 0. 08%. Furthermore, Stone asks â€Å"Who would want their children in a car driven by someone who has consumed three, four, or even more beers in an hour† (Stone 46)? I couldn’t agree more. However, this common argument from the pro-0. 08% side is more like a parent responsibility question. They use this to manipulate our emotion by putting an innocent child in an improbable and unrelated situation. On the other hand, a similar study at University of North Carolina shows no significant change after their adoption of 0. 08%. Which study is correct? Most likely, both have some truthfulness. It could be either way depending on the state. The lowering of the Blood Alcohol Content percentage law is unnecessary and useless. Nevertheless, some states have already moved to the 0. 08%, and we hear the argument: â€Å"It makes no sense for a driver to be legally drunk in one state but not in another† (Stone 46). To that, I ask a couple questions of my own. Why can I carry a concealed gun in one state and not another? Why is it that I can drive a certain speed in one state, but a different speed in another? The response to those questions and Stone’s statement is all of the above are state laws. At this point, the federal government seems to get confused. In October 2000, congress passed a law that uses the states’ money against them. It asserts that if a state doesn’t lower its BAC percentage to 0. 08% by 2003, it will lose two percent of its highway money. States that don’t like the law will be forced to vote for it because they are desperate for highway construction money. Strings shouldn’t be attached to this money. What are lost in all of this are the current laws for drunk driving. Driving while impaired is already illegal whether the person tests 0. 04% or 0. 10%. Courts can use alcohol test of 0. 04% and higher as evidence of impairment. It’s at 0. 10% where a person is legally drunk and cannot legally operate a vehicle. Therefore, it’s not as if people who test 0. 08% are going unpunished like the other side would have you believe. In conclusion, anybody who picks out one particular aspect and says that it is not working hasn’t looked that the whole problem. Naturally stress levels are higher, individuals are less entrepreneurial or independent. At the other end of the spectrum the opposite applies because the work force is willing to take risk, be less resistant to change and have less stress and job anxiety.
